Christmas Charity Luncheon
Just to get a flavour of the Christmas Charity Luncheon here are the photos of the event which included an auction conducted by Ed (Stewpot) Stewart and magical tricks from Mike Long. The bidding was in aid of the PHAB charity of which Ed is the President. In all we raised £2,000 through games and auctions for such prizes as EA Solent sailing days, full facility stays at the Chewton Glen and a special “Ed Stewart radio”.
Our thanks go to Ed and Mike for a very entertaining luncheon event, and we are delighted that we were all able to support the PHAB charity.
We were delighted to have a record attendance and filled the newly-decorated dining room to capacity!

February Luncheon 2006
February’s lunch was a great success, with an interesting and thought-provoking speaker in Leslie Spiers and also from the point of view numbers attending.
Leslie is the Managing Director of Proem Consulting Limited. Lesley spoke to us about his extensive travels around the world and what he has extracted from those experiences, which can then be applied to business models, and management skills back here.
Lunch was attended by thirty-five members (twenty-three company members). Two of these were new members, Kevin Barratt of Ripe Ideas and Jane Michel of Emphasis Consulting who are welcomed for the first time. In addition there were twenty-eight guests making a total of sixty-three for the lunch. This is the best attendance for a February that the Solent group have ever had in seventeen years. Numbers so far this year generally show an increased attendance as people are recognising the quality of the event as a prime networking opportunity.

Annual May Dinner
At the Annual May Dinner this year we raised £1750 for Barnardo’s charity while enjoying a variety of fund raising events.
The highlight, of course, was the talk by Andrew Sachs who, in an eloquent, friendly and personable style, demonstrated his skills as a raconteur by talking about his experiences and the people he has met during his theatrical career over the past 50 years.
Everyone was intrigued to learn of the flight of his family from Hitler's Germany in 1939 and the fact that he owes his lack of an accent to learning English at such an early age. He spoke about his Faulty Towers experience - amazingly only 2 series (12 episodes; 6 hours of airtime) were filmed. 3 questions he is always asked are:
What is it like working with John Cleese? Wonderful
Did it hurt? Sometimes yes!
Will there be any more? No
That day he had just escaped from a set where he had died, and he was going back to die again.
We would all like thank Andrew, and Janet Gunstone of Barnardo’s, for helping to make this a most enjoyable, informative and entertaining evening.
